Tuesday 10 May, 9am to 9pm
In the period between Ascension Day and Pentecost, we’ll be joining with parishes across England to pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit for evangelism, vocations and the renewal of the Church. This is in response to an invitation from our Archbishops to join in 'a great wave of prayer across our land'. At the heart of our prayers will be the words that Jesus Christ himself taught us: ‘Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done.’
We’ll be having a ‘Relay of Prayer’ in St Mary’s: twelve hours of continuous prayer. There’ll be lots of silence with prayer resources, Bibles, themes for intercession etc in church. Every hour, on the hour, some short prayers will be said aloud. Feel free to come and go throughout the day. As well as the silence, there’s a number of services and events for everyone.
9am: Morning Prayer & Litany
12 noon: Midday Prayer
12.15 – 3.15pm: Silent Prayer in the Presence of the Sacrament
3.30 – 5.30pm: Children’s Prayer Activities with drinks and biscuits from 3.15pm
6pm: Evening Prayer
7.30pm: Taizé Eucharist
8.45pm: Compline by Candlelight
If you can't manage to join us in church at any point during the day, please do join us from your home. Prayer cards will be available on the two preceding Sundays.
'Rejoice always, pray without ceasing!'
