The Rt Revd Graham James came to help us celebrate our annual festival in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to whom St Mary’s Church is dedicated.
Over one hundred worshippers filled the church for the celebration Eucharist led by the Bishop. Afterwards the Bishop and Mrs James joined parishioners for a lunch party to keep the festival spirit going.
The church was decorated extensively with flowers to mark the occasion, the choir sang a range of festival music and the children of the Church took part in special activities. In his sermon the Bishop reminded worshippers that the Virgin Mary had faced difficulty and puzzlement as the mother of Jesus, but that her love and humanity brought her very close to us even today.
