Faith Under Fire - a Lent Course with Jack Lawson

We are often reminded these days that we live in a ‘pluralistic society’.  Practising Christians are now a minority group in Britain.  It can be tempting for us to look back wistfully to a time ‘when we were a Christian country’.  And while there is some truth in that, the fact is that we have always been a mixed religious economy with pagan, atheist, Jewish compatriots and—since the days of empire—a fair number of Hindus and Muslims, not to mention others.  However, what is true today that was not the case 40 or 50 years ago, is that Christians no longer have a protected place within society; such that in the work place, in schools and in society at large, we can find our faith under fire.  However, we are not alone, as millions of our sisters and brothers face discrimination and outright hostility throughout many areas of our world.  But again, this is nothing new, for the same was the case for most of our biblical forebears.  Thus, in order to learn how we too might remain faithful in a pluralistic society, we will examine the experiences of three strong personalities from both Old and New Testaments: Daniel, Esther and Paul.  So join me in Lent on four consecutive Tuesday evenings as we explore together ‘faith under fire.’

St Mary's Church Hall,  Attleborough (behind the Church), 18th March, 25th March, 1st April and 8th April, 7.30pm

Admission free - donations welcome to The Barnabas Fund.

It would be helpful to read Daniel 1-6, Esther, Galatians 1:15-16 and Acts 17 before the course. Please bring a Bible with you.
