At St Mary's several of the parish groups have parties during the Epiphany season. Come along: we'd love to see you! Children's Epiphany party: Saturday 7 January, 2.30 to 4.30pm in the Hall. Everyone's welcome but if possible please let Marion Dawe let know if you'd like to come so we can plan! Men's Group Epiphany Dinner: Wednesday 18 January, 7 for 7.30pm at Pizzeria Bello, Queen's Square. Again, everyone's welcome, but let Paul Andrew know if you'd like to join us. St Mary's Ladies will gather for an Epiphany meal on Wednesday 1 February, 7 for 7.30pm at the Griffin, next door to the church. Menu and sign up sheet in church. |

St Mary's Christmas flowers were put in place on Christmas Eve. They include large white roses, lilies, white gerbera, lots of eucalyptus, hundreds of dried slices of orange and lemon and dozens of pine cones painted in gold and bronze. Thanks to those who worked hard to make the church look beautiful for Christmas. For Advent 2016 we have had a Jesse Tree in the porch of St Mary's. We added one ornament to the tree each day to remind us of an ancestor of Christ or an aspect of the story of salvation prior to His birth. The ornaments were all made by hand by members of our Church Family and local community. Here's the full gallery of 24 images, together with photos of the tree 'before' and 'after'.
Here are a few photos of the Nativity Play performance by Sunday Club during Sunday's Parish Eucharist. Based on 'The Christmas Poem' by Bob Hartman the play set the birth of Jesus in a wider context. We began with creation and were reminded that it's not just the baby Jesus we celebrate at Christmas but the man he grew up to be. Scenes from Jesus' life included the Wedding at Cana and the Good Samaritan. Thanks to everyone who took part. The 'Grand Draw' was drawn on Sarurday morning in a packed 'Coffee and Chat'. Over 4000 tickets were sold this year raising £1299 for Church Funds. Thanks to Dorothy and her team for all the hard work and organising. Congratulations to all the winners. We had another great Messy Church on Saturday morning at the Methodist Church. Bacon rolls, fun crafts and worship with bells on! Christmas came early last Friday when the members of 'Community Lunch' had their festive meal. Good company and good food were enhanced by crackers and a draw for each person to win some biscuits for Christmas. Thanks to everyone who has helped this year by setting up, serving and washing up.
Today the Church of England has launched its new website www.achristmasnearyou.org to help you find your local Christmas services and celebrations. There are over 27,000 to choose from! Pop in your postcode and the site will tell you what's near you. All the services at St Mary's, Attleborough with All Saints, Besthorpe are listed.
A shoot shall come out from the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. (Isaiah 11.1) This Advent we have a Jesse Tree in the porch at St Mary's. A Jesse Tree depicts the genealogy of Jesus using art and symbols to represent His ancestors. Each of our 24 tree ornaments has been beautifully crafted by a member of the Church Family or wider community. We hung the first on the tree after Morning Prayer today and will be adding one each morning until Christmas. Today's represents the Creation. |
