The children at St Mary's on Sunday celebrated Pentecost by making doves and flame hats reminding us of the Pentecost reading from Acts. Although it wasn't an official Sunday Club week activities were laid on at the back of Church to mark the occasion. At the end of the service the whole congregation celebrated with lit candles.
There's a lot coming up in the diary. Here's a taste of the new few months.
On the 31st May Fr Martin will be celebrating 50 years since his Ordination to the Priesthood. We will be holding a special service and be joined by some faces from his past as well as many friends from Attleborough. Half a century is a long time and we give thanks for Fr Martin's continued ministry among us and wish him well for the future. In July we will mark the beginning of a new ministry as Richard Stanton joins us as curate. Richard will be ordained deacon on 4th July in the cathedral. The service begins at 10.30am and everyone is welcome to attend. Richard will be with us for our services on 5th July. Please make him welcome as he moves into Cedar Drive and begins his ministry among us. Besthorpe Church will again be welcoming Keith Skipper for a fun evening on Saturday 20th June. Come along and hear some local dialect and amusing stories from Keith. Fast becoming on of the highlights of the town's year, St Mary's Fete is on the 11th July. Last year several hundred people came and we were blessed by beautiful weather. We hope the weather will be as kind to us again and that it will be another enjoyable day. On 25th July the Norfolk Vintage Sports Car Club are beginning their rally in Attleborough. The Church has been asked to provide refreshments and you can all come along to the car park, enjoy a bacon roll and have a look at the cars as they prepare to set off at 9.30am. The rally will be finishing with cars arriving at Besthorpe Church from 2.30pm and you will have another chance to look at the cars there and enjoy a cream tea. Before the end of July we will also be hosting BBC Radio 4’s 'Any Questions'. The programme will be live from St Mary's on Friday 31st July. More about that next month but do look out for details of how to get tickets in the coming weeks. Christian Aid Week begins on Sunday. We begin the week early, on Saturday, with our annual Christian Aid Coffee Morning in St Mary's hall from 10am to 11.30am. On Sunday there is a Christian Aid Service at 4pm at Attleborough Baptist Church. Then during the week members of the Churches in Attleborough will be doing house to house collections. Please support Christian Aid's valuable work! |
