It was a privilege tonight to welcome Julie James, staff nurse at Priscilla Bacon Lodge, for a conversation about 'Faith on the Ward'. After an introduction to the hospice movement, Julie shared with us some reflections on her experiences in palliative care nursing as a lifelong Christian, and we discussed some of the ethical issues which arise in caring for people with terminal illnesses and their families.
This was the fifth instalment in our Lent study series, 'Faith at work': we'll be reflecting on the course together and sharing our own experiences of 'Faith at work' in an informal hour's conversation next Tuesday at 7pm, followed by 8pm by the Eucharist & Address for the Tuesday of Holy Week. All welcome!
Congratulations to Darius in St Mary's Choir, who received his dark blue ribbon today: a stage in the journey of the Royal School of Church Music's 'Voice for Life' scheme. The Director of Music presented him with his ribbon at the end of the Parish Eucharist, at which Darius also read the first lesson. Well done Darius for all your hard work!
Meanwhile, some of our probationers are working hard to be admitted as choristers in the near future. More children are always welcome in St Mary's Choir: click here for more details.
We thought it might be fun to make an album of what goes on in and around our church in a day - so here's Friday 9 March at St Mary's Attleborough. There's plenty going on: we aim to be a place of love, laughter and lots of prayer.
32 of us gathered in St Mary's Hall tonight for an engaging presentation by the Revd Christian Heycocks, Vicar of St Peter's Church, Sheringham, who told us about his ministry in Iraq and Afghanistan as a chaplain with the Royal Marines Commandos. Christian knew this was his vocation when he was just 14. He shared some insights into life on the frontline beyond what the media report, and described how chaplains work in the challenging environment of combat operations.
Holy Week is a time of intense activity and deep prayer at St Mary's. It's the heart of the Christian year. This year, Holy Week begins on 25 March: Palm Sunday. All the different departments of the Church play roles in our celebration of Holy Week and Easter - among them our musicians, who contribute to ten of the services between Palm Sunday and Easter Day. The music list for Holy Week has now been published: here's are some of the highlights of the music which we'll be using in our worship for these great days.
