This traditional service is based on the seven short anthems, or antiphons that were sung before and after the Magnificat at the ancient Christian evening services from December 17th until Christmas Eve. These Great Advent Antiphons explore the names given for the coming Messiah from the prophecies of the Old Testament to fulfilment in the New Testament. During the service the Choir and Servers move in procession gradually from east to west illustrating the move from darkness to light. We are re-enacting our slow move towards the coming of Christ who burst as a light upon a darkened world. This is our Advent Hope.
