A day in the life of St Mary's

We thought it might be fun to make an album of what goes on in and around our church in a day - so here's Friday 9 March at St Mary's Attleborough.  There's plenty going on: we aim to be a place of love, laughter and lots of prayer.
Our Grade I listed parish church is open all day, every day for prayer, quiet and visiting.

Each day begins with prayer: yesterday six of us gathered at 8.45am for Morning Prayer & the Litany.

During the morning we hosted Creative Arts East's "Our Day Out" group - offering the chance to take part in creative music and dance workshops, make friends with new people and have some fun in a dementia-friendly environment.

During "Our Day Out" there was plenty of singing and plenty of tea and coffee!

At lunchtime we hosted a memorial service for Jan Stephen: the church was nearly full.  Each year we're privileged to conduct over fifty funerals and memorial services.

At 2pm St Mary's branch of Mothers' Union welcomed the Diocesan President of the Mothers' Union, Marguerite Phillips. She led a workshop for members...

...during which we thought about the mission of Mary Sumner, explored the essence of what it is to be Mothers' Union today, and how MU can uniquely contribute to making a real difference to people's lives.

Here are some of our ideas!

The bell of St Mary's rang again at 4.55 and three of us prayed the Church's Evening Prayer together.

After school some of our children gathered to pot miniature pansies ready to give out to mums and all women in church on Mothering Sunday.

Our trial after-school children's group made their own pizzas - they smelled and tasted amazing!

Every Friday night in Lent we make a journey around the Stations of the Cross, praying our way through Jesus's journey to the Cross. This simple service began at 6.30 and last night we used some meditations by the Dominican Fr Timothy Radcliffe.

St Mary's Choir practised in the Hall - the probationers at 6.30, the older children at 7.00 and then the full choir at 7.30pm. They are learning a new Mass setting by Mozart ready for Easter. New members are always welcome: click here for details.
